ICT Centre, Chancellor College, university of Malawi.

I am responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure at Chancellor College. 

Besides provide the college network users with a more secure and reliable internet connection, my work helps the researchers, both staff and students, to get connected and stay in touch the college's remote research centers and other related research institutions outside campus and the nation at large.

The client computers are mainly running on windows (XP, Vista and 7). But our servers are on Linux. We have a fiber backbone on campus and UTP cables running to the departments. We are connected to the internet through VSAT, our ISP is in Norway.

I have BSc Computer Science and I have worked as a Systems Administrator for the past 8 years without a proper training on system/network administration other than my own research on the internet on issues related to my work. 

I feel the need to get some knowledge on what my fellow system administrators are doing, considering that our college is planning to increase the number of students from 6000 to 15000.
